Tata Electronics and ASML are joining forces to accelerate India’s semiconductor ambitions, with a focus on the country’s first 300 mm wafer fab in Dholera. The Indian conglomerate and the Dutch photolithography equipment specialist said their partnership will support the ramp-up of the plant while also helping build local skills and a more sustainable supply chain.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening India’s chip manufacturing ecosystem at a time when the country is trying to reduce its dependence on imported semiconductors and attract more advanced industrial capabilities. By combining Tata Electronics’ manufacturing push with ASML’s expertise in lithography systems, the two companies intend to support the technical and operational development of the Dholera facility, which is expected to become a key node in India’s emerging semiconductor industry.
Beyond the factory itself, the partnership includes a broader industrial-development component. Tata Electronics and ASML plan to work on training and skills development for local talent, as well as on building a supply chain that can support long-term semiconductor production in India. The emphasis on sustainability suggests the companies want the project to contribute not only to capacity expansion but also to a more resilient and locally anchored ecosystem.
The announcement underscores the strategic importance of Dholera as India seeks to establish a credible foothold in advanced chip manufacturing. A 300 mm wafer plant is a significant milestone, as this format is standard for high-volume semiconductor production and requires sophisticated equipment, process control and supplier coordination.
