Bluetwin (2022): A Novel Floating Offshore Wind System
The Bluetwin system, developed in 2022, introduces an integrated design for floating offshore wind energy. Its core innovation is the combination of a vertical-axis, dual-rotor turbine with an optimized semi-submersible floating platform and a clustered mooring system. This approach aims to enhance efficiency and reduce costs for offshore wind farms by optimizing the entire anchoring infrastructure.
The system features a custom-designed, tripod-shaped semi-submersible floater. This structure is engineered to integrate directly with the turbine's framework, creating a unified and optimized platform. Mounted on this floater is a vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) equipped with two counter-rotating, twin rotors. The design of these rotors has been specifically optimized for performance within this integrated floating system.
The primary goal of the Bluetwin configuration is to improve the overall economics of floating offshore wind. By combining the turbine and floater into a co-optimized unit and utilizing a clustered mooring arrangement, the system seeks to lower material usage, simplify installation, and reduce the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) compared to conventional floating wind designs.
Le système consiste en l’association d’une turbine bi-rotor à axe vertical à un flotteur optimisé et un amarrage en cluster pour optimiser les systèmes d’ancrages dans un parc d’éolien offshore. Le flotteur développé est un semi submersible tripode qui intègre la structure de la turbine pour optimiser l’intégration des deux rotors.
