NIS 2 has been part of European law since December 2022, yet thousands of French organizations still have not assessed what it means for them. That gap is becoming harder to ignore as France moves toward national transposition of the directive and as the potential penalties rise to as much as 2% of global turnover.
The issue is not limited to a small set of critical operators. The article points to around 15,000 companies that are expected to realize only after the vote that they fall within the scope of NIS 2. For many of them, the discovery will come late, despite the fact that the directive has already been in force at the EU level for more than a year and a half.
NIS 2 marks a significant tightening of European cybersecurity obligations, broadening the number of organizations covered and increasing compliance pressure. The message is clear: the era of gradual awareness is over, and companies that have not yet mapped their exposure will need to do so quickly once the national law is adopted.
